The group started life as the Model Railway Group. Some of us have our own model layouts, in varying stages of construction, or planning! For the 25th Anniversary of Tiverton u3a in 2016 we built a small layout which we exhibited at the celebration. As members have come and gone we have widened our areas of interest and the Group now covers all things railway from the full scale real thing to N Gauge models, so we have renamed ourselves the Railway Group to reflect the range of interests. In the winter months we mostly get together to look at DVDs and chat generally about railways whilst in Spring, Summer and Autumn we like to visit heritage railways, model railway exhibitions and other places of railway interest.
Between us we have a large collection of DVDs to watch on wet winter days!
During Covid our group has been meeting via Zoom on the fourth Friday of every month at 10.30am. We have watched quite a few DVDs, and we have had a couple of very interesting talks provided by members of the Railway Ramblers Group, which have proved very popular. For our November 2021 meeting we will be meeting “live” for the first time since the Covid outbreak started, and our venue will be Willand Methodist Church, Gables Road, Willand. The Church is on the corner of Gables Road and Somerville Road. There is a small car car park round the corner in Somerville Road to the left just beyond Gables Road, or there is street parking outside the Church. If the venue proves to be successful, we will continue to use it. There is a small charge to use the Church and for tea or coffee, the cost will depend on the number of attendees.

The Group is open to all Tiverton u3a members and affiliates and new members will be warmly welcomed!
