We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The members take it in turns to organise a lunch each month. Instructions on how to proceed are given to each member. Rambles are usually within a radius of 20 miles from Tiverton and between 3½ and 5½ miles, followed by a pub lunch. Any U3A member is welcome to join us on the day at the starting point, which is always advertised in the previous month’s Newsletter.

We meet monthly at The Old Heathcoat School Community Centre to study Western Philosophy with our academic leader David Hamer. The syllabus of studies is discussed and determined by members of the group. There are no lectures, but members are asked to prepare by reading short passages and to consider or devise questions for discussion at the meeting.

Meetings are arranged to start at 2.30 pm and usually finish by about 4.30 pm depending on how many Members attend, and how much discussion the items produce. The host(ess) provides tea/coffee and biscuits either during or after the readings.

To discuss books that we have individually read over the past weeks. Each member is able to describe a book and recommend it (or not) to the group

 

 

 

 

 

Short trek: ‘trek’ implies a bit of effort, so gradients are at some point involved, often on Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Brendons or the Quantocks, although visits to the rest of Devon and Somerset (Dorset too, occasionally) aren’t exactly flat.
